About Luigi

Hi! 

If you have reached this page, you are clearly interested in who I am and what I do. 

Although I go by the name of Luigi, my actual name is Flavio. I am a New Zealand born Aussie of full blooded Swiss German heritage now living in Coober Pedy and cutting Opals! Phew, that's a lot...anyway, I didn't get the ordinary life I suppose. 

My story is not unusual when it comes to the type of people this place attracts, although I did not come specifically for Opal. I came to Coober Pedy nearly four years ago to catch up with my father, and after some time I fell into that old spell, "Opal Fever" they call it...so I have stayed ever since and Opal has become a part of my life so important I decided to go into business. 

I have been cutting Opal with concern and consciousness for over two years, almost to the point of obsession. I am always learning, always getting better, and the Opal you see today on my site is testiment to the sheer effort I have applied. To go from not quite knowing who I am or what I am doing, to balancing everything Opal has thrown at me and still going to work every evening, has become my passions project. I sincerely hope you can appreciate that I would love to share my story with you.

If you have ever been to Coober Pedy, you may even recognise me from the Outback Bar and Grill behind the bar! 

Anyway, I am thrilled you have made it here, and I really hope I can provide you not only a genuine, Australian Opal product, but a great insight into the magical and historic world of Opal.
